From understanding to practice
In The Fearless Organization, Amy C. Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, explained why psychological safety matters.
In Building a Fearless Organization, Amy and Michaela Kerrissey transform the theory of psychological safety into practical action: in three parts, from shared understanding to daily practice, with reflection exercises, real-life scenarios, and a Leadership Toolkit.
Start by knowing where you stand
The fieldbook's first chapter covers how psychological safety is measured, starting with the survey scale Amy C. Edmondson developed in the late 1990s.
That same measurement is the foundation of every product of The Fearless Organization Scan, which we developed together with her. Measuring gives you a starting point: you see where your team or organization stands, and from there you know where to begin with the fieldbook.
Your next step
Whether you lead a team or support leaders in their work, here is how we can support you alongside the fieldbook, so you can work on psychological safety and performance with a clear view of where you stand.
For leaders
- Start with your own perspective. The free Personal Scan shows how you personally answer the questions, with a specific team in mind. A useful first reflection before you open the fieldbook.
→ Take the free Personal Scan - Measure your team. The Team Scan gives you and your team a shared picture of the level of psychological safety experienced in the team, and a common language to discuss it. A natural starting point for the toolkit in Part II.
→ Measure your team - Measure your organization, free of charge. Join The Fearless Report 2026, the global benchmark study on psychological safety. Your organization receives its own report with benchmarks by industry, country, and globally. A minimum of 60 respondents is required; participation closes December 31, 2026.
→ Measure your organization
For coaches, HR, and consultants
- Bring the measurement into your practice. The Practitioner Certification prepares you to run The Fearless Organization Scan with the teams and leaders you support, and to guide the conversation that follows. The fieldbook gives you the exercises; the scan gives you the starting point.
→ View the certification calendar - Measure across an organization. The Custom Organization PSI solution gives an organization full data ownership, with segmentation and reporting tailored to its culture, learning, or leadership strategy.
